Have any of you hounds tried the little mexican restaurant in Hewitt, TX (just outside of Waco) called Taqueria Altos de Jalisco?
It has zero atmosphere, but really good food and some unique items that I don't see at most of the other standard Mexican restaurants.
For example, Gorditas. These are sort of like sandwiches filled with your choice of meats, pico de gallo, lettuce, and refied beans. My favorite is the carne guisada gordita. The "bread" is about 3/8" thick crispy cornbread type of a "bun" that is absolutely delicious and tastes just made.
They also serve breakfast with many typical Mexican breakfast items such as migas.
It is really hard to spend more than $6.00 there for anything.
Try it and post your opinion here. I would like to hear what the other hounds have to say.
