I've been hearing lately from some friends how much they've been enjoying recent visits to Malios. The restaurant is a tradition in Tampa that surely might pre-date Bern's, and borrows somewhat casually from its tendency to tacky. When an out-of-town friend noted that there won't any references to Malio's on Chowhound, it made me wonder what anybody else thinks of Malio's, as I haven't been there in years.
The restaurant is on Dale Mabry, three blocks South of Kennedy Blvd.on the west side of the street. The menu is American, predominately steak and seafood, and from what my friends are saying, it is the best steak value in town. Beware, though, the staffs recommendations which in my friends case included a side lobster for her entree. Not listed on the menu she had the foresight to ask how much -- $35.
AND -- this is a draw -- the restaurant is frequented by many local celebs, one of whom used to be Burt Reynolds who dated one of the waitresses (this detail surfaced during his well-publicized divorce from Lonnie Anderson). I'm not going to out them here but if you go you might have the opportunity to be up close and personal with Tampa athletes and big-wigs who frequent the place.
Anybody else out there have any Malio's experiences?
