Tamaqua BBQ

Mosca | Jul 30, 2002 02:30 PM

I found it this afternoon; last time, I turned around about a mile short. Heading south, there's a place about 1/2 mile away where there's a whiff of hickory smoke in the air; that was neat.

At 12:30 the racks of ribs weren't ready yet. I got 3 chopped beef sammies, 3 chopped pork sammies, 3 chicken legs/thighs, and a Texas cheese steak (Onions and bbq sauce), and took them home for the family for lunch, about 1/2 hour drive. It was 92*, and I had the top down, so everything was still hot when I got home!

The chopped beef is VERY smoky, the pork less so. The sauce is light, vinegary and sweet, the buns are soft hamburger rolls. The chips are Martins; they did get soggy on the drive home. The beef is the more distinctive of the two sandwiches; not better, just more different from other chopped beef sammies. I must be shrinking fast (down 45 lbs in the last 3 months), I only ate 1/2 of each. The chicken is super smoky, and really really delicious; it came with sauce on the side. I'd eat it with or without the sauce, it's awesome.

We couldn't but split one of the chicken pieces, so dinner for tonight is, get this, a Texas cheese steak split into thirds, 2 of the chicken pieces divided among us, and leftover pizza from Revello's in Old Forge from last night (4 red, 4 white)! Life is good!
