Tamales at Santa Venetia Market (San Rafael)

Malcolm Ruthven | Sep 11, 202004:25 PM

Santa Venetia Market is in north San Rafael, across from the Marin County Civic Center. The last posts about it here I found were from 2012, where I posted about their tamales. Well, I'm again posting about them because I just re-discovered them. I've recently ordered tamales from Texas Lone Star Tamales, and I do like them. But that prompted me to go back to Santa Venetia Market and try theirs again. They no longer have them steamed/hot, but instead refrigerated in packs of four ($8). Today I got a pack of their Chicken Mole tamales and heated one when I got home. Each one weighs twice as much as the Texas Tamale version (same price each) and to me is just as good (but of course different). If you've forgotten about this small market, give it another try (they have many other good things there).
