After not hearing too much about this Elmhurst restaurant on these boards for a year or two and not being able to handle a wait at Sripraphai - a group of five went there on last night and it is sad to say that this restaurant has fallen off the wagon.
Where once the food was good when it originally opened. The food last night was barely passable and the service was somewhat uncaring. In my opinion - I would warn anybody from going to this restaurant unless there was some sort of unlikely revival.
The starters we ordered where alright - (satays, and the fried calamari) - the fish cakes had an off smell and where barely touched.
The entrees where just unbelievably bad. Massaman curry with seafood - was a watery, light curry with what appeared to be barely cooked (frozen) seafood.
Crispy pork with chili basil sauce was a pale comparison of Sri's magnificent version - with crispy pork as hard a stone.
A vegetable (choi sum) with salted fish was made with old vegetables and what I figured was a whole salted fish to mask the old vegetables and create an entirely too salty a dish - where it should be complementing the vegetables and not overpowering it.
Some other dishes (thai fried rice and pad thai) are not evening worth mentioning.
Too top it all off they are charging a compulsory service charge for parties of five or more (where most restaurants would do that for a party of six).
All in all a very bad experience that left a bad taste (literally).
I will never be going back to the restaurant - It's a shame since it started off very well when it first opened a few years back.
If you do go to this restaurant I would hope you do not have a culinary experience like ours.
I wish you luck with this place.
