Takoma Park area: best restaurants, markets, butcher, resources?

I've moved to Takoma Park fairly recently from Seattle and I'm interested in finding some good food resources in my area. For financial reasons and also the fact that I love to cook, I'm more interested in finding markets etc., but I'd also like to know what people think the best restaurants in this area are. (Obviously, the closer to me, the better, but I'm interested in anything that's in Montgomery Co. PG Co. or close-by Washington. I'll also be perfectly willing to go way into Va. if something's good enough to warrant a trip.) As far as restaurants in the area go, everybody always recommends Udupi Palace, which I've found OK, but not necessarily worth raving about. On the other hand, I'm a big fan of both meat and alcolholic beverages and Udupi Palace has neither, so this might have something to do with that. Two places that I used to go in Seattle which I would love to find replacements for are (I'll include the names for anybody who would like to find these excellent places in Seattle):

A&J's Meats - a REAL butcher that orders in whole carcasses and processes them in-house. Always good for finding unusual cuts of meat as well as things like sausage casings, which I've currently taken to mail ordering since I haven't found a local source.

Pacific Food Importers, AKA "Big John's PFI" - No nonsense source for imported mostly-Mediterranean food. I'd love to find a local equivalent of this place. In an old warehouse, they stock every kind of Mediterranean food you might need and by dispensing with all the yuppie decor, etc. the prices are awesome. Imported bulk olives, incredible cheese selection, etc.

Anyway, those are the two places I miss most, but I'd love to hear about other things that people like in this area. I've been to several of the Asian and Latin American groceries in Langley Park and have found them to be great resources for certain things. Thanks for any advice you can give me,
