Takeout Breakfast in Irvine

Das Ubergeek | Apr 7, 2010 09:49 AM

OK, so I'm in physical therapy three mornings a week in Irvine (inside the loop) and I get out in time to be roaring hungry for breakfast. I have to get to work, though, so takeout is my only option. I head back north on the 5 to, let's say, MainPlace Mall.

I'm not in Irvine at the that hour on a weekday very often, so I'm looking for stuff around there, rather than stuff closer to my office (Anepalco's, Kaffa, etc.)

I once harboured dreams of Chinese breakfast, but 99 Ranch doesn't open until 9, and Yu's Garden, despite Yelp saying 8 and their own sign saying 9.30, doesn't open until 10.

I've had my fill of bagels from East Coast Bagel; I've had my fill of Layer Cake Bakery. I've been to Whole Foods in the District, but it's really expensive, especially for anything like a sandwich. There's only so many times I can eat at 85°C (and their regular coffee is far and away the worst in OC).

Pretty much anyplace along Jeffrey, Alton, Culver, Barranca, Jamboree, Red Hill, Edinger, Walnut... any ideas?
