Taka's Sushi, Sacramento

beanbag | Jan 15, 2005 05:02 PM

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish at this midtown sushi spot last night. We focused on the nigiri and weren't disappointed. Fish portions were generous; the hamachi in particular was juicy and fresh tasting. My only complaint is that the rice was harder than I like it.

We tried the BBQ albacore appetizer -- I wasn't crazy about it. Seemed a shame to cover the lovely seared tuna with a heavy, spicy coating of sauce. Agedashi-dofu was heavy and gummy, definitely a case of too much potato starch. Next time, we'll stick with the nigiri and sashimi.
