Tahoe City - trip report dining

Tahoe City and environs :

1. Jakes on the Lake - a surprise menu item that was down right fantastic: Kurabata pork, panko crusted with an arugula, asian pear, ginger salad with some sort of yummy bacon and potato side. A wondrous combo of flavors and textures. Lapped up every last piece. The Lemon Grass coconut macaroon dessert sounded better than the lumpish execution. But other desserts sounded enticing. Wonderful complimentary bread choices.

2. Sunnyside: hamburger good - too big to finish. Okay fries.

3. PlumpJack - Squaw Valley Village - lunch -small plates - the pita-avacado,-bacon jam-burrata could not have been better, some refreshing Belgian "hard" cider, along with their truffle rosemary popcorn was a very nice mid day light meal in a lovely outdoor patio setting. If dinner is too much here, be sure to enjoy their cafe/bar menu. Excellent.

4. Pfeifer Haus - I wanted it to be better than it was, but it wasn't. Good for food in bulk, so you won't go hungry with fair prices, but not really "German". Too hard to get the proper ingredients in the US. Though their draft beer and red cabbage was very nice and the apple strudel dessert was plump and tasty. Choose carefully, enjoy the kitschy setting and their earnest presentation.
