Ever notice the compact red wagon on the corner of Cesar Chavez and Valencia enclosed by a chain link fence? That would be Tacos El Paisano. i stopped there to grab a quick dinner in January while passing by.
With a lower to the ground profile and big picture windows, the brightly lit exhibition kitchen provides entertainment as well as a meal.
Hard to choose among the offerings on this sidewalk sign.
Pupusas, tamales and hot dogs too among the usual taco truck offerings.
First up, a hot dog. The mystery meat wiener was just okay surrounded by well-toasted balloon bread.
Back to the truck to study the meats on the comal de bola more carefully to give El Paisano another chance.
Then I noticed that notice for handmade tortillas.
The pair of tacos turned out to be much better. Thin, doubled tortillas had the deep taste of toasty corn, sweated just right. My suadero and al pastor tacos were offered up with just the meats. Salsa and garnishes were self-serve from the counter top array. I especially liked the green salsa. Chopped onions were very fresh and I was happy to have some spicy carrots with pickled jalapeños.
This truck is available for catering gigs.
One can take a seat at one of the small tables alongside the wagon.
These were very solid tacos, and again, the tortillas were great. I'll have to return for other specialties made with fresh masa.
