Mr. Taco in Romeoville

HappyFatGuy | Feb 23, 200508:26 AM

I'm sorry that I cannot give a full report, but this place suprised me enough to want to post something.

I unexpectedly found myself driving through Romeoville on Weber rd. a few days back right at lunchtime. I needed to grab a quick lunch and pulled into the Dominick's plaza on Weber Rd (400 block).

I saw a sign for "Mr. Taco: Authentic Mexican Food, No Bull". I popped in for a quick something to eat in the car while I drove. I was shocked at the menu.

They don't have a wide variety of dished, but the ingredients they offer were much more interesting than the outside of this fast food, strip mall place suggested. Here are the tacos they offer (English translations for other Spanish impaired Chowhounds):
--Chile Relleno(Stuffed pepper w/cheese)
--Chicharron(Pork Skin)
--Lengua(Beef Tongue)
--Barbacoa(Mexican BBQ)
--Chorizo(Mexican Sausage)

I didn't have a lot of time, but I ordered my favorite (Chorizo tacos, no tomato). They were served on soft corn tortillos with lettuce, onion and cilantro. On my tray, they put two squeeze bottles of sauce and one bowl of sauce. I asked what the sauces were, and the guy at the counter pointed to them and said "Medium, Hot, Really Hot", with really hot being the black bowl.

I ate the tacos with the "Really Hot" sauce, which I did not find to be really hot, but pleasently spicy and very flavorfull. The tacos were excellent. I can't wait to be back in that area to try some of their other offerings...
