From my home cooking post:
As I was walking out of Penzey's yesterday, I happened to notice Szechuan peppercorns. Took me by surprise as I had been there only a week or two before and they said they still couldn't get them... All that changed a week ago and they are selling them in stores and in catalogue.
So, my question for this Board is, are they now available everywhere in the States? I had vaguely heard (or read about on these boards) that they were restricted for some reason. Penzey's said something about potential threats to citrus crops... they also said that they could have gotten them before, but they had to be treated in such a way that it diminished the flavor. So they didn't sell them at all... until now. Not sure if trade restrictions changed or the process that they are treated?
Anyhow, curious to get more info from all of you.
