Swedish Midsummer celebrations

petradish | Jun 8, 200505:24 PM

Today's LAT food section articles about midsummer & aquavit reminded me to post a couple upcoming Swedish food opportunities for interested hounds.

The first is from a poster I spotted in the window of the Alpine Village Market. We don't have firsthand experience with this event:

SCAN Midsummer Party-Sat, June 25 6pm. $30 All you can eat shrimp (or pasta), wine with dinner, bread, cucumber salad, strawberries, DANISH KRINGLE, coffee. Raffle & maypole. RSVP payment by June 22. Contact Paal Berg 310.547.9349 or 562.716.9414.
address: Nansen Field-15 Hidden Valley Rd., Rolling Hills Estates

The second is the 85th annual Midsummer Festival/Picnic. Sun, June 26th. They sell some Swedish cakes/pastries, coffee, American hot dogs, hamburgers, beer. It's basically a picnic where you can bring your own aquavit & Swedish dishes. You can put together a nice picnic from the following places (herring/seafood, cheeses, breads, cakes, etc):

Olson's Deli (5660 W. Pico Blvd, LA. 323.938.0742),
Alpine Village Mkt(833 W. Torrance Blvd, Torrance. 310.327.2483)
Berolina Bakery (3421 Ocean View Blvd, Glendale. 818.249.6506)
IKEA (Burbank, Costa Mesa, Carson)
Santa Monica Seafood (Sta Monica, Costa Mesa)

They raise the midsummer pole at noon & there's folk dancing too.

address: Vasa Park-2854 Triunfo Canyon Rd., Agoura. Hrs: 10-5. NO DOGS, NO BBQS. Small entrance fee ($?) per person.
