My friend works across the street, and she told me that a new sushi restaurant opened across the street. Being the sushi lover I am, I stopped by Izumi after work today.
This place just opened on Tuesday. Since I am always wary about new sushi places, I decided to stick to rolls this time. I ordered the Spider, the Philly and a Salmon Skin Roll. Total came up to $15.00! Not bad.. There was a 20% discount because they just opened.
Spider roll was a good size, and cut in easy to eat pieces. It annoys me when sushi places cut their pieces too big! The salmon skin roll was a little bland, and the unagi sauce helped. The philly roll was supposed to be smoked salmon, but they used fresh salmon instead. It was ok, but I think it would be better with smoked salmon.
Not too bad. I really liked their rolls. People were really nice and the sushi chefs were funny. I will definitely be back to try the sushi. They also had interesting appetizers. Prices are reasonable, even without the discount. The owner is Thai, chefs are Japanese.
Which leads me an unrelated question: Why are there no good Thai restaurants by the West Loop? =(
All in all, nice place. Cool decor. I will definitely be back!
