My sushi experiences have been limited to the basics--California roll, spicy tuna roll, yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. I look at a menu and am lost. I also know nothing about Japanese foods beyond sushi, such as the cooked foods.
I'm looking for a sushi restaurant, preferably in the SFV but can travel to the Westside, where the food is excellent but not too expensive--$50-60 per person would be the most I want to spend. I want a place where I can sit at the sushi bar and have a friendly sushi chef guide and educate me, a place that won't be so crazy-busy that the chef doesn't have enough time for me.
I also have a question. When I sit at the sushi bar, I am only given a list of sushi to order from. When I sit at a table, I get a full menu with cooked items. Are the cooked items only available at the tables, or should I ask for a full menu when I sit at the bar?
