Decided to revisit Q to reassess the place after they've had a few months to settle in.
Overall a very good dinner. Fish quality was excellent throughout as was the rice. Some of the best engawa, katsuo, octopus, otoro I've had in recent memory. The miso cured uni was delicious. The curing process adds a sweet complex flavor profile which complemented the uni very well. Minor quip, while I enjoyed the tamago, I would have preferred it served at room temperature vs. chilled.
Other visible changes, the Latino sushi assistant was nowhere to be seen. I think they were down to 2 waiters from 4 during my first visit.
My conclusion - I still believe it's the best looking sushi bar in LA. I probably had too unrealistically high expectations the first time I visited. More enjoyable experience this time round by not trying to mentally assess and nitpick every detail to rationalize the cost of a meal. IMO they serve some of the best sushi in town in a beautiful setting. If you need a 'white linen' zen sushi experience to impress someone who appreciates good sushi, this is the place to go. But be prepared to shell out beaucoup dineros.
