Hey there, I'm new to this board, but have a long interest in food. I have a two pronged question... About 18 months ago I had my first (ever!) allergic reaction to shellfish. Hives all over, very uncomfortable. I had eaten shellfish with abandon before, and never had any problem. Has anyone else had this happen? Can I try again, or should I acquiese to the lifetime ban?
To go along with the first question, I'm unsure of what kinds of sushi I can safely eat. I've been living out here for about a year and a half but money constraints limits my explorations. The few times I've tried sushi, I've really enjoyed it, but I feel limited to the tuna and the chicken teriyaki. Boring. Does anyone have any recs for a place where I can ask "Hey what's in that?" without getting snickered at? I live in Glendale and I am poor! (Doing my taxes always puts in stark relief my economic status!) Any advice is greatly appreciated.
