Sushi Mike's Dobbs Ferry Review

Shawn | Feb 1, 2004 07:35 AM

Went to Sushi Mike's in Dobbs Ferry for dinner last night. Arrived there at around 7:00; it was busy but we did not have a wait to be seated. Started off splitting a fried oyster appetizer. It was okay, but nothing fantastic. Oysters were slightly underfried, and I think there were only three of them, cut into pieces. Miso soup was good, if a little salty, and the salad was no better or worse than what you usually get in local Japanese restaurants.
The sushi, however, was a great surprise. We each ordered the "supreme" sushi and sashimi combination-- I believe it was the most expensive thing on the menu at $24.95. Very ample portions of fresh, nicely presented fish and a huge, very tasty, green dragon roll (eel, cucumber, wrapped in avocado and topped with roe). Among the better sushi I have had in the Westchester area. We usually go to Azuma in Hartsdale, which has been our favorite, but Sushi Mike's offers the advantage of a more extensive appetizer selection, as well as cooked entrees for any non-sushi eaters in a group.
The place is cute and funky inside, but small and a little cramped. When it is busy, as last night, it can get loud, so it is not the place for a romantic evening. But all in all, we really liked it. Good quality sushi, friendly waitstaff and reasonable prices-- we will definitely be going back.
Anyone else have any experiences here?
