"Surf "and "Turf" Menu for Saturday night

vstock | Feb 11, 2010 10:20 AM

We do a little spin on Valentine's day and do an anti-restaurant weekend, since they often are over crowded and the experience isn't always the best. We invite a few couples over and have a nice relaxing evening. This year, we have several people with restricted eating styles at our combined table and I am trying to balance them all and need some creative help. I'm counting on the Chowhounds to make me look so smart, without making it overly difficult to get it all on the table together.

I want to do a surf and turf menu (I was thinking Ribeyes or Prime Rib and Crab Claws). I have one diner that won't eat seafood and one that won't eat anything but seafood. I am looking for stand ins for the play on words for "surf" or "turf".

i.e. I will have six plates with prime rib and crab claws and then one place with a Swordfish steak ("Turf") and Crab, and then one with Prime Rib and ?. I am having trouble figuring out something to stand in as the "surf" for someone who doesn't eat seafood or the "turf" for someone who doesn't eat meat. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
