Sur on Smith Street

I haven't seen much discussion of late concerning Sur on Smith Street. What do people think?

I lunched there with my wife and kids last Sunday, following the request of my 2.5-year old for "french fries and ketchup". It was around 3 p.m. and only three or four tables were taken when we arrived (unlike Banania Cafe, which was packed inside and out), although several more filled up while we ate. But I liked the atmosphere and we had great service, particularly for a place that doesn't ostensibly cater to kids (no highchairs or boosters). The food came quickly and, in the case of my steak frites, perfectly cooked to order (it's been a while since I've gotten a "medium" steak that was actually in the middle between rare and well-done).

The butter for the bread was excellent (very flavorful, although bread was average). My steak was very good (not Les Halles, but well-seasoned and juicy) and the "french fries and ketchup" were very good too (enough so that we brought home a doggy bag).

My wife has the eggs benedict, which she liked and we also got the vegetable pasta soup which everyone enjoyed sharing -- not too salty or too thin.

All in all, a good experience, especially given the somewhat low expectations I had going in (due to little word of mouth on this site of late).
