Suquet at B44

Dinner last night at 44 Belden Place (hence B44).

I had a suquet of monkfish, shrimp and mushrooms. (Don't know the exact name of the dish. I only remember the parts. Suquet. Monkfish. Shrimp. This is a 2-cylinder report, out of 8.)

The SF visitors tried to stop me from ordering it - they know of my shrimp allergy.

It wasn't a soupy stew. 3 large shrimp (heads intact - I donated the heads to my dining companions, but they weren't consumed), fresh plump mushrooms and monkfish pieces stood on top of, rather than in, the thick and rich flavored reddish puree. (There were also a few thin white slices of abalone-textured seafood - why wasn't it mentioned on the menu?) Except for the monkfish which I prefer very firm, I enjoyed the dish very much.

Oh, and their freshly cured white anchovy appetizer, with just a bit of refreshing tartness, was good.

Tasty tapenade olive oil with bread. Fine dark tapenade layer on the bottom, a thicker layer of extra virgin floating on top.

A bit on the pricey side (entrees about $20), but solid food, great Catalan atmosphere.
