I've never bought any savouries there, just the roll cakes, egg tarts and the likes from time to time. Well today I popped in after a lunch at Gain Wah (which was fully packed at 12:20) and decided to buy half dozen steamed buns, 2 each of: BBQ pork, pork & veggies, vegetarian, to take home for the kiddo and his playdate friends.
But I ripped into one pork & veggies myself in the late afternoon (make sure they're safe for the kids' consumption, wink) ..... holy Batman is that ever good. The pork "patty" inside was moist (to the point of leaking some juices out), flavorful, textured yet soft and the bun dough was pillowy soft. And it's so huge that I actually left 1/4 of it un-eaten. These buggers blow the doors off of New Town's and Pine House's steamed buns any day. And while at $1.40 each (same for all types) may be a quarter or so more than others, these are well worth it.
Gonna tucker into the BBQ pork one tomorrow for breakfast.
You're right, Grayelf, Sun Fresh's buns are awesome. Not everything is a hit, 'tho. And the place is pretty ghetto.
