Need suggestions for Group Dinners on a Fri and Sat nite

Okay folks, I need your help! I only mentioned this briefly at the Rib Run but time is getting closer.

I Treasurer of an organization of “Sound Recording Archivists” which will be having it Annual Conference in Philly (at Penn) next May. The Fall Board Meeting will be held here in 4 weeks, again at Penn. I want to arrange for group dinners for Friday and Saturday nights. Friday will be smaller.. maybe 10-12 and Saturday, as many as 18-20. Many will be in Philly for the first time and I want them to have a fun Philly experience.

Here are some other facts and them I need ideas, especially, if you’ve done similar things. (it’s sort of like planning a DDC event but on a weekend.):

Many are staying at the Penn Tower Hotel and others are coming in from NYC and going back that night. I can’t think of many places within walking distance. I think we may have enough folks with cars to allow for driving. It would also allow me to show folks some sights. The Board Members will be talking up the City when they plan the Conference, which should draw a couple hundred next year.

Now the hard part. Many are filing expense reports and will need to have separate receipts. Also, some drink, others don’t. And some order more than others. So, I’d like a BYOB or a place that I can arrange up front for separate billing. Or a place with a liquor license that will do the same. Ethnic food is fine if a variety. And we would need reservations too. I’d like to keep it as reasonable in price as possible.

Any suggestions? Start with Univ City but you can expand to South Philly too. Any places you can think of for Saturday where I could arrange a price fixe for under $30. incl tax and tip?

You are all experts at this. If you are hesitant to post to the board, email me off list at The more ideas the better.

Thanks so much for replying this week so I can get started and make some calls. I want to show off our city but do it with as little stress as possible.
