Had the seven course chef's menu at Striped Bass last night and while a few courses were steller, half of the courses they served were extremely ordinary. We started with a mushroom soup foamed on top which was good, but a bit rich to start the meal with. Then there was a peke-toe crab with american caviar that was very good, and then we had three very average course the last of which was a John Dory that was not even close to fresh. You could smell the stench before the plate was on table. They redeemed themselves a bit with a seared cod with a star anise sauce that was perfect, of the quality we had been waiting for all night. All for $100 a person. The wine list is fairly unimaginative. We found a decent 1996 Burgundy, but for a restaurant of that price level it is same they don't put more effort into creating a real wine list.
