well, we ended up taking our german friend to stone park cafe (we were hoping to convince him on latin american or mexican, but once we said american cuisine, he was hooked rightly or wrongly).
the weekend was as expected, not crowded at all, which was nice since it appears that the seating arrangements are a bit tight.
our waitress was pleasant enough, although a bit pushy in the sense that she didn't give us much time to look at the menu at first (maybe she was bored since it wasn't busy). but she and the other waitstaff were fine throughout the meal.
for starters, we had the bluefish cakes, which were delicious, and the goat cheese salad, which was okay. the warm fried goat cheese was tasty but it didn't have much walnut or beets. we also tried the salt cod fritters, which i loved.
for entrees, he had the chicken, which was good. we had the scallops and chatham cod. also tried a side of those shoestring fries, since i remembered hearing about them here. everything was good.... except that all of it was extremely SALTY. i mean, i love me some good salty fries, but even this was too much. and the fish/seafood dishes were just overwhelmed with salt.
we chose wines/beers by the glasses, and they were fine enough.
for dessert, i had the apple/blueberry crisp, which was more heavy than i would have liked but perhaps would've been fine for someone else.
i don't know about going back, because of (1) the saltiness and (2) the lack of any vegetarian entrees. but overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.
