Just to shine a little cheer to balance what seems to even me to be a certain cynical delight in the collecting of Valentine's Day resto horror stories:
In response to their e-mail of last week, yesterday AM, we picked up "Open table" 6:00 pm reserves at CI for last night. (I'd been fighting the flu and held off last week)
No "Valentines surcharge"; no "automatic gratuity".
We were seated immediately upon arrival. We both had the tasting menu, (which they're now offering on some weekends; call or check their website). They graciously substituted an item in place of the pork dish, for a pair of non-pork-consumers.
The familiar dishes were up to the chef's usual very high standard; the new tasting menu dishes (scallops with smoked blonde chile pepper sauce, chicken with chipotle cream) were subtle and nicely presented; I'm hoping they make their way onto the regular menu soon. Service was attentive.
Alas, I do not yet own a "foodie-cam", so I can't offer pics.
Dinner for two, including two glasses of champagne for Chow-Spouse and a big sangria for yours truly, came to about $105, not including the tip.
BTW, they've just picked up a VERY high Zagat debut number....
So why isn't this place that full EVERY Thursday night?
