Ellen and I are back from a week in St. Louis with my brother; we had a couple of great eating experiences. The top places on my list: Mama's Coal Pot, on Delmar in the Loop, has great chicken and links. I'm assuming their ribs and brisket are also top-notch but I only ate there once. Saigon Cafe is a lovely little Vietnamese restaurant; I thought the pho I had there was as good as any I have eaten in NYC. Also the rice pudding with taro was a treat. And the diner we ate breakfast at made everything just right, and surprised us with good homemade corn beef hash. Gabe, could you post the name of the diner, which I've forgotten?
Also: the chow was awful but the drinks and the jazz were good at Spruill's; also we were happy to meet Pat Hammond there.
