Squid balls

A while back in NYC there was a small place in Chinatown called the Lime House that served fried calamari ,scungilli,shrimp,clams etc .My favorite was the fried squid balls. Any idea how I should approach this recipe? I'm reluctant to follow a "meatball" recipe .Thanks PS The Lime House was an Italian red sauce eatery not Chinese but I welcome all recipes.
