Did it yesterday. Have to say I was distracted and enjoying the company of my friend too much to notice the food as chowishly as I would usually. The staff-owner and server-we're so effusive it was actually cute. Apparently they put huge energy into planning the menu and you can tell they're brimming with pride at the place (now 15 days old!) I was so thrilled to see brandade (salt cod) on a restaurant menu that I ordered it immediately, without really noticing it was served with baked eggs. Brandade is really too rich to be a main course anyway, and adding eggs is really gilding the lilly. Just too too much. An appetizer maybe, but I was just silly to order an entree. My girlfriend had the roasted beet salad (as I should have). It looked pretty and I wish I'd nabbed a bite or two. My only observation was the croutons on the salad were either of the packaged variety or cut by someone whose knife skills are far superior to my own.
Next time, I'll try the cured salmon sandwich which sounds delicious, plus there's an array of terrific sounding breakfast choices. The prices are on par with the neighborhood of late, similar to Alcove, although I'm happier to pay this at a full serve restaurant with an enthusiastic staff than I am standing in line at Alcove.
The place is cute and there is a patio which looks like it will be pleasant when it warms up. I believe that someone on this board mentioned that it was in the space of L.A. Rose. This is incorrect. L.A. Rose still exists. Square One is across the street @ 4854 Fountain and very welcome to the neighborhood indeed.
