My post contains at least two questions...

1. Unless it is a cheesecake, can a typical cake pan be used instead of a spring form?
2. If a spring form is needed, what are some quality and relatively in expensive pans? If they leak, what is the best way to keep the filling inside? Way to test if it is going to leak?
