It’s spring - why no Southern Hemisphere apples?

jen kalb | May 27, 201911:13 AM

For some years the markets including Costco, Trader Joe’s Fairway and many supermarkets stocked new crop Southern Hemisphere apples starting in the spring through the summer. In the last couple of years they pretty much have stuck to storage domestic apples. Even with modern nitrogen storage methods these are inferior as the year goes by. I mean, who wants to eat a 9-12 month old apple??? What’s going on here, is it just a cost/glut of American apples thing? Very unfortunate for the taste buds I miss the spring new crop treat.
