How do I know spring is here?
Weber's is open on Rt. 38 in Pennsauken.
Went there today for lunch, had two pork roll 'n cheeses with a diet lemonade. (Sugar-laden root beer is simply way too carbo-intensive for me, but I tasted my wife's and it was, as always, darkly earthy.)
For those unfamiliar with Weber's, it's a bright orange drive-in, with carhops. I've only known it for about 20 years, but it's just like the Stewart's Root Beer drive-in's I frequented during my youth in Central NJ. I suspect, but do not know for sure, that it was originally a Stewart's.
Keep in mind, the food is definitely drive-in greasy, but that's its charms. As my wife advises, ya gotta eat the hamburger while it's still hot, before it has a chance to congeal. Perhaps that's why I go for the pork roll, a Trenton classic, instead. The slim french fries are actually pretty good -- they taste like they've been twice-fried, the way they should be.
Seems to me they opened a bit early this year -- in years past, they didn't seem to open until late March, but I saw they were open when i drove by last Saturday.
