Jim noted that his experience in Thai restaurants is that there are only two levels of heat: White/wussy heat and Thai heat, with no middle ground.
In general, I agree, although many Thai places have peppers on the table for you to zip up your own food, it's not the same thing.
However, there's a very good Thai place in Manhattan, which I cannot remember the name of, on 2nd ave and 18th or 19th street, on the west side of 2nd....
They offer three levels of spicy (for the spicy dishes). The LEAST spicy was labeled very. I asked for the next level up, and the waiter said he would bring me something between very and the next level, and that if it wasn't spicy enough, he would have another meal prepared.....It was spicy enough, although next time, I think I will go one level up.
Anyway, I was wondering about getting the "right" level of spiciness, in Thai places or other places.
