speaking of pizza ....

There's lots of discussion about who has the best pizza crust, or the best cheese, or the best toppings, but who has the best sauce? I've been craving pizza recently, but none of the sauces have satisfied me.

Maybe I have plebian taste in pizza, but I don't care about the crust (as long as it's not too doughy) or fancy toppings. But I do want a rich, spicy sauce, and a goodly amount of it (not frou-frou pizza with just a smear of sauce and some artfully arranged toppings). And while I have nothing against white, pesto, garlic etc. sauces, I'm really looking for classic tomato.

Feel free to rave about any of your faves -- I'm unlikely to go beyond the central East Bay, but others may benefit from your suggestions.
