Krik Krak on Amsterdam Ave and 100 St still has an almost daily changing menu of about 8 dishes served with spiced rice and beans and deep fried/boiled plantains. Tiny restaurant with an army of yellow cabs parked in front, it serves Griot(deep fried pork you dip into a super hot sauce) all the time, always a kingfish dish. Customers are almost exclusively Haitians. Excellent food and exotic atmosphere.
Close by a new REAL mexican restaurant opened that was reviewed by Asimov. MUST TRY their hot chocolate. Forget about their coffee. For caffee con leche, go over to The Embassy on Amsterdam on around 107 St. They also have daily menus, from Oxtail stew to plantains-mashed whatchacallit. But for the best dessert, go have flan at the 108 St and Broadway. Their caffee con leche is incredible.
