Despite Mrs. Smith's ample warnings, we went to Spago last night. It's a lot of money to spend (about $80/person) for indifferent service and unmemorable food. We ordered three appetizers to share among four people. When I asked, the server told me the prosciutto wrapped prawns came as a set of three. Pause. One would have hoped she might suggest adding a fourth prawn, but the suggestion was not forthcoming.
The entrees were acceptable, but not really inspired. The flatbread was stale, and the assortment of dessert cookies looked like they might be a supermarket house brand. On top of that they were soggy. The sauvignon blanc was served unacceptably warm, when it was served at all. Mostly, we filled our own glasses. Not surprising that every other restaurant we walked past was filled to overflowing, while Spago had plenty of tables empty.
