Southland Flavor Taste (Taiwanese food), Cupertino report w/ pics

hhc | Nov 6, 200810:18 PM     3

I'm not really into Taiwanese food, but my husband loves it. So we had to try this place.

It's in the Cupertino Village, around the corner on the Left of 99 Ranch.

It's a very casual place w/ small dishes & not too expensive food.

We tried 8 dishes for 3 ppl. FREE pot of tea given, tea was from a tea bag:

1. simmered pig ears #102 $3.50-cut very thin, not crunchy, boring to eat.

2. sliced boiled pork diaphragm #201-$4.95. It's chunks of meat w/ stuff attached. I thought it was ok, comes w/ a sweet sauce.

3. steamed meat ball #208 $3.95-it's a round ball wrapped in some kind of goopy glutinous thing. Kinda like a big giant eye. I liked the meat part, not the stuff around it.

4. oyster pancake #222 $5.50-you really must like eggs & oyster since that's pretty much what this dish is. Comes w/ a sweet sauce we asked for on the side.

5. ground pork rice #701 #4.25-just ok, huge bowl of rice, veggies, & some minced pork.

6. Taiwanese hamburger #210 $3.95-it's pretty tasty. In a big steamed bun stuffed w/ meat, peanut, veggies. Pretty huge, so can feed 1-2 if you order lots of other stuff.

7. A Choy w/ garlic - $7.50 ask if they have it, not really on the menu. Very nice stir-fried veggies & lots of garlic.

8. Squid portage (sic) rice noodle #617 #5.95 - pretty ok if you like thin, vermicelli noodles.

CASH ONLY. $39.55 + $3.26 tax = $42.81 Before tip.

Separate bathrooms in the back.
