South Water Kitchen

Mugs | Feb 16, 200312:43 AM

Four of us ate tonight for the first time at South Water Kitchen before the Pretenders' concert at the Chicago Theatre, which is only about a block away. Our booth near the open kitchen was comfortable and good for conversation. Our server was friendly and helpful. The entrees ordered were chicken fricasee, buttermilk fried chicken, meat loaf, and Lake Superior whitefish (mine). I had a taste of each and all were good, comforting, if not adventurous. I don't think I'll run back to South Water Kitchen, but I will keep it in mind as a pleasant place to take someone who wants to eat well-made farmhouse food in the Loop.

I know this space was formerly Mossant. Was it once Cafe Angelo?
