Next on South Street - very good!!! (Longish)

Next really deserves to be more crowded! It's a lovely BYO, but with a lousy location (b/t 2nd & 3rd on South).

I had a special gravlax appetizer that was matched nicely with a cucumber creme fraiche, tangy greens and bagel chips. My boyfriend had the PEI mussels in a coconut curry, and the broth was terrific.

For the main course, I had the Thai peanut chicken, which was tender and had a peanut sauce with a good bit of lemongrass zip. I almost never order chicken in restaurants - why waste money on something I eat twice a week? - but it was a worthy exception! He had the red snapper, which he only grudgingly shared with me. It was a very good fall fish dish - paired with a souped-up polenta.

We were very happy with our dinner! I would compare Next favorably to a place like Chloe. We will come back to try the tasting menu (including a vegetarian tasting menu once a week).

It's reasonably priced (apps around $10, mains around $20) and takes credit cards. Down side is no liquor store nearby - 8th & South is closest.
