sourcing ingredients in north Wales

Ruth Lafler | Jun 29, 2005 03:56 PM

I just realized that I'm probably going to be responsible for cooking a fancy meal for my parents' 50th anniversary, which we are celebrating at my aunt's vacation cottage in Wales.

Being a good California cook, I'd like to plan something around fresh local ingredients. With all the small-scale agriculture in that area, I have to believe that I should be able to get my hands on some good stuff (it will be mid-August).

Any suggestions on what kinds of foods I should be looking for, and where? The nearest town of any size is Dolgellau. Extra points for a place I can get local cheeses (I had some amazing local cheeses on my last visit to England -- they're undergoing a cheese renaissance).

I'd like to plan ahead a little so I have the right recipes at hand.
