Soul Food in Portland -- Honey's Place

I tried to post about this place a while back but my browser crashed. Anyhoo.......

You read it right, there is a new soul food place here in Portland. Honey's Place is located in Bramhall Square (That's Congress and Bramhall/Deering St). They offer such comforting food as fried chicken (!!), smothered chicken/pork chops, fried pork chops... they have sandwiches like grilled cheese, bbq beef or pork, fried chicken... they have a few salads like pulled or fried chicken, tuna or tossed.

The regular sides include grits, black eye peas (with a little Frank's Hot Sauce, GOOOD!), cabbage, mashed potatoes and gravy... the Special Sides include Mac and Cheese (the baked stuff!), collard greens and yams.

There are daily specials like last nights oxtail... I really dig the Wednesday Ham Hock special (Ham Hocks, Mac & Cheese, cornbread) or Sundays Chicken and dumplings.

Nothing mentioned above is more than $8.95, cheaper lunch portions available.

I haven't tried the BBQ pigs feet, cabbage, rice, cornbread $12.95 (Friday) or (Saturday's) Chitterlings, Collard Greens, Candied Yams, rice and cornbread $15.95

So if anyone had tried those two, please post and let us know how it is.

As for the restaurant, its pleasant and bright and they play good music. It was pretty busy last night, I'm thrilled to report.

This is filling, inexpensive and tasty comfort food with friendly service. I have my fingers crossed that they might give meatloaf a try come fall!

They are open Tuesday - Saturday 11am-9pm, Sunday 1pm-7pm. Great for take out!
