Hello members of the board!
My wife and I will be staying in Sonoma next weekend (arriving Friday evening and then heading back to the San Francisco area around 6:30/7pm on Sunday). We are staying about a mile from the Girl & a Fig restaurant. We really want to spend our time checking out the non-touristy vineyards and eating good local food (and perhaps doing some holiday shopping but only looking for cool products unique to the area). From what I gather, since we have only two full days, I believe we should just stick to the Sonoma area instead of doing say Sonoma one day and Napa the other? Perhaps I am wrong about this? Would love advice on this..
And we would also love your recommendations regarding off the path and or just incredible must visit vineyards. I've also read that some tasting rooms/vineyards require reservations in advance (so thanks in advance for noting if we need to make a reservation). We are very flexible when it comes to type of wine we like (everything from good oaky buttery chardonnays to pinot noir to cabs to blends)..
Two years ago we were in Healdsburg for a few days and fell in love with the town and Preston (the only vineyard we actually got to visit that trip). It appears some of the best restaurants in the Sonoma area are in Healdsburg but i think the town is about 30 miles from where we are staying...so not sure if its worth building Healdsburg into our itinerary..
Also not sure if there are any special events going on in Sonoma over next weekend, but if there are please do share..
many thanks in advance and i'd be happy to give recommendations for folks visiting Brooklyn, NY (park slope area).
