Anyone else have the Soignee Blues? (longish)

Tonight is our anniversary and we cannot seem to zero in on any one special place now that Soignee is gone. We've tried just about everywhere and are consistently underwhelmed.

Here's an example of what usually happens: Last week we went to Birches. It's not that the food is bad, it's just that it comes so close...and then doesn't quite deliver. Blackened scallops with english cucumber and taragon sounds like a wonderful combination. Unfortunatly the blackening spice obliterated any sense that I was eating a scallop. It was also missing that hint of fat or creaminess that would have perfectly blended these wonderful ingredients. After that I couldn't stop thinking about Soignee.

We've tried Brewer's Art, Kali's Court, The Helmand, Timothy Deans, every Cindy Wolfe establishment, all the major steak houses, Saffron, to name a few.

Am I turning into a food curmudgeon? Does anyone else have this problem?

I guess if I have to sum it up in one question it would be this: Where does one go now that Soignee is gone? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
