Sochi salad

Just listened to a radio interview (WGBH Boston's Boston Public Radio)
with sports writer Shiri Springer, just back from the Olympics. She mentioned that most of the food available there was cabbage-based, including breakfast. Sounded like the meaty ones did not much impress her, but she described a slaw that had a fresh, light, creamy dressing seasoned with local herbs that was very delicious. At one point she tried to get just a green salad as a meal, without dressing. The workers were flummoxed, and eventually the cook pointed to bottles of mayo and ketchup and exclaimed: "Woman! Sauce!" She then understood that he expected her to mix up a DIY Russian dressing. When in Rome...
