Smuttynose Baltic Porter

Kenji | Feb 11, 200809:48 AM     3

I was ecstatic to encounter this brew at the Cambridge, MA. Trader Joe's. It's the newest beer in Smuttynose's "Big Beers" series -- all of which have been exceptional, in my view. This Baltic Porter is the blackest, thickest example of the style I've tasted. It's got a fabulous licorice nose, and it tastes like Scharffen Berger bittersweet chocolate. It's also warming. The alcohol content isn't listed on the bottle, but I'd guess it's got at least 8% ABV, and probably closer to 9%. I liked the brew a lot. Hopefully I'll find some of Victory's Baltic Thunder at some point and have the opportunity to taste the two BPs side by side.
