I know. I read all the posts. Some people love Schwartz's, some people love Main. Both seem to suffer from a certain amount of inconsistency.
Here's the problem. I like red meat just fine and would like to try smoked meat. My husband doesn't eat red meat, but he does happily eat chicken (warm only, no cold chicken sandwiches) and fish. So, where to go?
I've looked at the menus on line. There seems to be something wrong with the Main website and I can't download the pdf to look at the whole menu, so I don't know if there's anything for my husband to eat. Schwartz's seems to have a chicken dish, but the one mention of it I can find in various reviews here and elsewhere is underwhelmed, to say the least. Ruben has a more varied menu, but fewer partisans, so I wonder if it's that good, although some people are very enthusiastic. We're staying near McGill, no car, so dependent on public transportation and cabs, so Pete's doesn't seem practical.
FWIW, we live in NY, so I can get good pastrami. I realize they're close but not exactly the same, but it's not like I never get something like this. I'd rather skip it and not waste the meal than have something mediocre just to say I had smoked meat. What do you think? Where should we go? Or forget the whole thing and go get another bagel?
