Wow! If this place was in Minneapolis, I'd eat there once a month, maybe more.
It is incongruously located in an industrial area of Salt Lake City, the restaurant is apparently an outgrowth of a mexican foods commissary business.
The atmosphere is funky-fancy with bright colors and comfortable furnishings.
The food is gourmet mexican. Huitlacoche quesadillas, the most amazing carnitas I've ever tasted, an interesting margarita menu (I enjoyed a blood orange, cinnamon and guajillo pepper marg with reposado upgrade).
I tasted the blue-corn meal crusted calamari, it was tender and good with just a bit of a spicy kick.
The carnitas were accompanied by excellent hand-made tortillas. There were many other items on the menu that looked like I'd enjoy them.
We didn't all get app/entree. One just got entree, one got app + soup. One had a beer, one did not drink. The cost was around $35 per person before tip.
Oh and the servers were friendly and professional.
