So I just bought the round Skeppshult 28 cm cast iron grill pan with the walnut wooden handle.
It looks like a beauty to me.
I gave my Staub ECI grill pan away last year, because I never used it.
But since then I’ve had hakkeboeffer (danish thick version of a hamburger served with soft sautéed onions, potatoes and brown sauce) at my friends place a couple of times prepared in a Skeppshult grill pan.
He owns the Skeppshult grill pan with the stainless steel hollow handle.
And it tasted great, not like real grill BBQ, but I can definitely taste the beef has been seared in a grill pan and the beef steak had the proper grill marks to show.
He also makes red bell peppers, zucchini and onions in the same grill pan with great success, so I thought to myself why the heck I gave my Staub ECI grill pan away last year.......Dohhhh
My friend follows the traditional way of cleaning raw cast iron pans. Hot water, no soaking and no detergent/soap.
Well I don’t. I wash my De Buyer Mineral B carbon steel pans in (a bit of) soap with great success. I’m going to do the same with my newly acquired Skeppshult grill pan.
But I talked to a rep from Skeppshult the other day, and he said washing their pans in detergent would interact with the cast iron and the finish they put on their pans and make them stick even more.
I say this is rubbish. Skeppshult are raw cast iron with a fine layer of pre-seasoned canola oil done at the factory. That’s it.
But the rep should know far better than me......
Has any Skeppshult pan owners ever washed their pan in detergent and experienced problems other than stripping the seasoning layer ?
I don’t need the seasoning, I only sear steaks in my carbon steel/cast iron pans, and I want my meat to stick as much as possible to create fond at the bottom of the pan and I also deglaze in wine quite often for the pan sauce.
Let me hear your thoughts.
BTW did I mention this Skeppshult grill pan is freaking beautiful in my opinion?
