Singapore has seen some Russian restaurants come & go (e.g. Kalinka Malinka at Tanglin, Nadezhda on Arab Street). The current remaining Russian spot is Buyan.
Esconced in a quiet part of Duxton Hill, Buyan surprisingly delivers on taste and flavours. I started off with a glass of Mors (blueberry/lingonberry juice drink). Lunch today consisted of:
- Olivier potato salad: a ubiquitous Russian appetiser done pretty well here.
- Piroshkis: the egg-and-leek one was tasty, whilst the minced beef one came out a bit dry.
- Beef Stroganoff: meltingly soft beef strips folded in a rich, creamy sauce. I'd have loved some rice to go with it, instead of the mashed potatoes but that's a small quibble.
Skipped the desserts here, but will have to return soon for more. Service was very attentive and friendly.
