Why the 'easiest' foods are so hard to make right? Often the things that require few steps and few ingredients come out ho-hum, bland and forgettable. It shouldn't be like that!
I just made mashed rutabagas, with half-and-half, salt, and pepper, and they were... exceedingly bland.
Last week I made challah french toast. Good farm eggs, vanilla, very good maple syrup, and challah! They were edible, but not like the challah french toast in your standard serviceable little diner or restaurant.
And don't get me started on oatmeal. I love oatmeal and I think I never will be able to make a great bowl of oatmeal!
Anybody else feels like that?
